The Maritime Technology Alliance (MTA) is an incorporated 501(c)4 not-for-profit corporation dedicated to the health and promotion of industry, academic and governmental maritime capabilities resident in Maryland and the surrounding areas. |

Founding of Alliance MTA was the inspiration of Maryland's US Senator, the Honorable Paul S. Sarbanes. Its President, Mr. Richard E. Metrey, with 41 years of Navy service, leads the MTA. Mr. Ivan Caplan is Vice-President and Treasurer. MTA has a Board of Directors with diverse backgrounds in the naval and maritime arena. MTA was incorporated in August 2001 and since its inception has worked closely with the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED), Montgomery County, the congressional staffs of both Maryland and Virginia, the Carderock Division and other government entities, the University of Maryland and several maritime businesses. The Mid-Atlantic Region The region is home to the largest and most experienced cadre of scientists and engineers dedicated to naval and maritime technology development existing in the country today. The area is richly endowed with outstanding maritime assets that range from the nation's premier ship and maritime research and testing facilities at the Carderock Division Naval Surface Warfare Center at West Bethesda, the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory and the outstanding Baltimore Harbor port facilities including the U.S. Coast Guard's Curtis Bay yard. |

Why Alliance is Needed? We are a maritime nation with substantial military, economic and homeland security needs. Maryland and the surrounding area are home to the major maritime assets within the United States.
